This
is a very nice Waltham Vanguard 23 jewel up up down wind
indicator pocket watch. The movement is nicely damasked and
adjusted to 5 positions.
The movement was just serviced and the
case cleaned and polished.
I am doing something with this watch that
I rarely if ever do and that is to offer a watch for sale
with cosmetic flaws that I would normally correct before
selling.
Before I describe the flaws, I want to emphasize
that the watch is running strong and keeping very accurate
time. This watch starts to run on one or two winding turns
of the crown it is so strong.
The case is a Waltham 10 K gold filled
case and both covers screw on and off properly, the bow is
firm and there is no brazing.
The crystal is new old stock beveled
glass.
Now for the flaws, the dial has a chip
repair by the bottom right of the wind indicator hand and
part of the regulator adjustment is missing. The hairspring
can still be adjusted if necessary but the threaded screw to
do so is gone. I doubt that this watch will need any
adjustment for years to come.
The price of perfect or near perfect
original dials have of late gone through the roof, so I
would have to invest at least $150.00 to get a perfect one.
The regulator is not expensive to repair but I do not have
the part so am offering the watch at a discounted price. If
I were to repair the regulator then I would replace the dial
and price this watch at about $1250.00

This is a size 18 Waltham 21 jewel
Crescent Street Serial Number 12565892, dating this watch to
1903.
The case is an open face hunter style with all hinges
working properly and closing tight. The glass crystal is
perfect as is the dial except for a small edge chip repair
between 1 and 2 near the 10. It is nearly invisible to the
naked eye and can't be seen with the bezel in place..
The case is 14K Gold Filled and is in very
good condition, there is some smoothing of the ornate
engraving because of the age but no brazing of the
gold.
The cartouche appears to be free of any
monogram or it was so light that it has worn off.

This
size 16 solid 18K gold pocket watch is in excellent running condition.
There is some case damage (dent) on the bottom left edge
that is not visible in these photos. The movement is a high
grade Swiss, we are currently trying to verify the
manufacturer, for certain.
We believe this movement was
manufactured by Patek Philippe for Charles H. Grottendieck a
famous Belgium clock maker located in the Antwerp Belgium. Grottendieck
was a very high end clock maker, that made this watch. As he
only made watches for important clients it stands to reason
that he used the best movements available. According to
sources we have communicated with in Belgium he is reported
to have only used Patek and Vacheron. This movement definitely
favors the Patek look.
